Sitting on her bed she holds her breath, using her free hand to toy with one of the silver piercings that threads through her ears. Her other hand is otherwise occupied, as it holds her slim Motorola to her other ear.
Listening to the phone ring, she seems to grow progressively more and more agitated as the rythm of kicks she places to her desk chair increases in tempo.
Huh. Guess she's nervous.
"Why hello there. Sorry if I'm surprised you're calling."
She stops kicking and releases the silver hoop from her grasp. Silence stretches out between the former couple as half formed words and half formed thoughts mesh together inside her head. --Bet if they were colors and images the inside of her head would look like a crazy kaleidoscope right now...
"Is this a bad call?"
"No," the girl stares up at the bright light of the lamp at her elbow, sitting atop her night table. "Its...Its a question call."
"Question?" the boy echoes the word on the other side of the line. "You have a question?"
His intonation of the phrase makes her lips twitch. I think I almost saw her smile. Almost.
If only he knew! You see, she doesn't have just one question. She has...just about a gazillion of them. How do you feel about me? Do you really love me? Why are you such an ass?! Such a jerk? How could you? Are you really trying? Do you really want me back? Who the hell are you?!
"Yeah, um..." she hesitates.
'cmon, you can do it, girl. Spit it out!
"If I started seeing someone, would you want to know?"

Oh. I can see now, why she might not have wanted to pop that question. After all, rumor has it he still loves her and wants her back despite the fact that he broke up with her.
Poor E looks like J's finally trying to move on. Maybe her friends finally got to her and persuaded her to stop giving the boy second --try one hundred chances. Still, if he really does love her, it sucks to be E.

After a long drawn out pause, he finally answers her question with a question of his own, "...If you're dating someone else, will I have to leave?"

Oh, E...
