Text message. J pauses their discussion about her maybe baby sized crush on their new ie. replacement/substitute/step in supervisor L. Which would be scandalous sounding except that the supervisor in question, while sounding all important and positively older given the whole "supervisor" title, was actually their age.
I love you.
--Wait! Was that message from E???

Okay, so I'm a bit baffled right now. And if you aren't its only because yours truly here hasn't quite been keeping you up to speed. Oops! Sorry, my bad.

So last we heard about J was that she had been crying as her birthday came to a close.
Turns out E was the one to blame for her tears. He picked her birthday to tell her that he was done. That he was giving up on trying to win her back. That he didn't love her anymore and was just lying to himself.
According to E, the reason he couldn't win her back was lack of want. The boy claimed that he could make things work out between the two of them, repair their fractured and pretty much dead relationship, get her to forgive him, and want him...if he wanted it. Turns out he doesn't want J back anymore.
--Surprising, I know, given that for the past...almost eleven months now that's all E's been claiming to want: her. J. His ex girlfriend back. The one, I must point out, he broke up with.
As for what caused this change of heart, and why he chose the girl's birthday to break the news to her...well, I wish I could tell you but unfortunately, even I don't have all the answers.

Sigh. What ever happened to the traditional "Happy birthday!" ?

Okay, now that you're up to speed. Or, about as much as I am. Why the heck did E who said he was giving up on ever winning J back due to no longer loving her, just send her a text message claiming the opposite?

"Unimportant." J pushes her phone back without sending back a reply and grabs a menu instead. "So, anyway, back to L..."
